Vietnam tourism industry is slowly but surely picking up over the years. Known for it's scenic natural views, it's one place nature lovers must not miss. As a matter of fact, I am doing a bit of research on Vietnam tours as I intend to travel Vietnam, either by tour or backpacking sometime next year (well, I need to save enough money for the trip!).

I'm trying to find a package that allows me to tours Vietnam and Cambodia, and perhaps Laos as well. There are many tour options and there are also cruises as well for those who wish to visit the famous Halong Bay. I think it's good to know a little about the country you plan to visit. Beside tourist spots, I think it is good to know a little about the people and the culture just so you know what to expect. If you're looking for travel information like language and literature; climate and weather; currency etc.

I'm trying my luck to find Hotels in vietnam but it's not on the list..Asiahotelbiz have many chances with over 10.000 hotels in Vietnam and Asia countries. Anyway, it's still a very resourceful web site since the hotels and resorts it features comes with star ratings, price rates and a brief review.

I am a young 31yo man with dual citizenship (australian & italian)and would be interested in retiring to Cambodia in the next 3-5 years. I have been there once as tourist and loved it. I heard that the cost of life is increasing however you can still have a good life with an income of US$1000 per month. Is this true? I would achieve this through monthly bank interests using my account in an australian bank. Am I supposed to deposit money in local banks? if so do you know what is the interest rate for bank deposits?
Also what type of visa would I require?
Would you know approx the yearly cost of a medical insurance for expats, a decent one. I would love to move to sihanoukville or kep.
thanks for your help
Andy

I should think with $1000 per month you could live like a king! I manage on $400 per month and this includes a nice en-suite hotel room!
Hey
Well I was also looking at the same spot beach front bars about 5 weeks ago, where you were looking, thers about 6 beach front Bars for sale right now, You do know that none of the bars have main electicity right??? All done by Gens which are very old and break down more times than work. + no tourists go ther because there are no roads as such just dirt tracks, plus the fact they are going to build a 1000 bed Hotel/Casino there within the next 2 to 3 years, So if I were you save your money plenty of Bars up on Victory hill for sale or Golden Loin Complex. Think about it hard.

Our family of four is planning a trip to Siem Reap next month, and we're looking for a nice mid range priced hotel/guesthouse w/pool. Any recomendations would be appreciated.
Hello,

I'll be arriving in Phnom Penh on Tuesday 7th of July with a very kind dog, coming from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
From July 12th till July 17th, I'll be visiting projects of my new organisation throughout the country. As I don't have a social network yet, I'm trying to find a dog-loving person or family who would want to foster my dog for those 6 days. Preferably you have a garden or are prepared to take him for a walk 2 times/day.

Alternatively, is there a reliable kennel / dog boarding organisation in Phnom Penh or its outskirts ?

Many thanks for all reactions and advise,
Hi, I will be on my way to work in Cambodia for a year or two within the next couple of months. I have several opportunities and in reality can probably choose where I want to locate myself. I would like some advice on different areas, I particularly don't want to find myself located in the centre of a sex tourist haven, this has happened to me twice over the years when locating myself around the Caribbean. I have lived around it and I can see why men swarm to these areas, flash a bit of cash around and take advantage of the local poverty and so on, but I'd appreciate being directed away from this kind of area. I am aware it will be everywhere, most poverty struck countries do that I have encountered but keeping it out of my face would be nice, or at least off my doorstep.
If anyone can advise me on the different areas to concentrate on I would very much appreciate, or even the areas to avoid. After several years in a pretty demanding environment I really want to kick back a bit, but be able to do it in a safer area without so much sleazy people around.
regards,

Hi Jodha, here, let me shed some light onto your questions there... you should have dug about on the internet a little more but never mind, I have for you!

Answers -

1) No, it's pretty dead here. Some would expect more life to be discovered on Mars. Dont worry tho, go check out the forums at "expat-advisory 'dot' com", it certainly looks more alive!

2a) Dont expect it to be as kicking as you've found it in the UK. However, in 2005 Elsewhere staged the first D'n'B night, and you might some some good tunage at Equinox.

2b) This will probably depend on the rapport you build with people like at Equinox. There is DJing happening so there would be scope to spin some tunes.

Good luck with the move!

                                      I live in Sihanoukville.
The answew to your Q is "Do NOT BUY A BAR ON THE BEACH" The Police Or Military can come along at any time & take it all away from you & they have done this many times in the past.
No such thing as a 99 year lease on Ochateal Beach.
Some Islands have been leased out by the Govt for 99 years but it will cost you $Millions.
If you wish to loose money then buy any business in Cambodia you will loose your money just the same as Thailand, too much of everything.

I find the Khmer nicer people than the Thais, The Visa is a lot easier here. You can work here on a business Visa.
The cost of living is cheaper here than Thailand.
The only thing that is very expensive here compared to Thailand is ISP.

Hope that Helps.
