HI, I AM ENGLISH AND AM LOOKING TO BUY A PLOT OF LAND WITH MY GIRLFRIEND IN NORTH CAMBODIA, IN SIYONG, PREAH VIHEAR WHERE HERE FAMILY LIVE. BUT NEED TO KNOW
HOW CAN I LEGALLY OWN THIS LAND?
AND THE LAND IS 70M X 20M BUT THEY ARE FOR ASKING $10,000 WHICH SOUNDS EXPENSIVE?
IF ANYONE CAN HELP ME ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS PLEASE HELP
As a foreigner you cannot own land.
Your girlfriend could...but unless shes paying or your happy to give her $10k then thats not really important. Just remember if you buy in her name you dont have any right over it... esp if you split.
You could get a 99 year lease and have it in your name, which is almost as good as owning. But if you cannot speak/read/write fluent khymer, which im guessing you cant, dont bother. Your gonna get ripped off. If you still want to go ahead, do some research, get a good laywer... and not one from the province where you want to buy (the lease).
As in everthing in life, something is worth what someone is prepared to pay. As a foreigner the khymers are obviously gonna try to overcharge you by 10 times... you might want to consider what $10,000 is worth in cambodia before handing over your cash... and im not just talking material goods... $10,000 could be 10+ years work in the countryside...
I have lived around Asia for 27 years now & my advice is never buy land in Asia you can not own it, You have NO Rights, If you wish to buy real estate buy it in your own Country where you have Rights.
I see Foreigners fall Victim to this every day.
All Bars & Guest houses on Otres Beach will be getting Bull Dozed down any day soon, Parts Of Ochateal Beach will also be going soon. So be very Careful.
Yes The Girl Friend Up Country buying land in her name for you oldest trick in the book they have sold this land many times to B/F before you came along and will resell again just as soon as they run you out of town or the country. Please keep your money in your pocket or give me a donation for the info.

Hey
Well I was also looking at the same spot beach front bars about 5 weeks ago, where you were looking, thers about 6 beach front Bars for sale right now, You do know that none of the bars have main electicity right??? All done by Gens which are very old and break down more times than work. + no tourists go ther because there are no roads as such just dirt tracks, plus the fact they are going to build a 1000 bed Hotel/Casino there within the next 2 to 3 years, So if I were you save your money plenty of Bars up on Victory hill for sale or Golden Loin Complex. Think about it hard.
