Recently came across a great new little bar / restaurant on the river front in Phnom Penh called BOJANGLES. Unpretentious with friendly staff and a large and diverse menu, including western comfort food and tasty Asian food. Very good value bearing in mind the location, probably one of the cheapest restaurants to eat in along the riverside strip, plus the owner is actually a Cambodian (young business woman) which makes a pleasant change as most of the riversides restaurants are owned by expats. Also has 2 Happy Hours, 4pm – 7pm and 10pm – 11pm, the former makes it an excellent choice for sunset cocktails. A unique and fascinating feature of Bojangles is the artwork on the walls, a collection of colourful Khmer language painted shop signs from around the countryside, signs advertising services such as hairdressers, laundry, motorbike repair shops, wedding clothes, electrical repair, and even male pigs for breeding! As computers take over these hand painted shop signs are dying out, but if you like them you can even buy one to take home as a souvenir knowing that you will be helping to prolong a traditional social art form.
So if you are strolling along the riverside be sure to pop-in, its also conveniently located next to ANZ Royal Bank with an ATM that accepts international debit and credit cards. |
