Can anyone comment on this post? I am going to be in a similar position.

I assumed that the 90 days plus 90 days extension were on a calendar year basis. Then I did not notice that on my second visit here that my visa was only for 61 days. After nearly 90 days I applied for an extension and was told that I had overstayed my visa. They gave me a 90 day extension and said that I would be fined R$8 per day on my departure and I am ready to pay that.

It was a nasty shock to read about a one year exclusion due to the infraction. As a UK passport holder I do not need a visa before arrival. It would be awful to arrive in SP next year and be turned away.

Can I sort this out before leaving Brazil? There is no international airport around here.

Oi! brand new to this forum. I am most likely visiting Brazil in July. I am dual Italian/American citizen but was born and raised in the USA. I have been told that if I visit Brasil, it is best to use my EU passport to avoid paying for the tourist visa prior to entering the country. My only concern is that in my Italian passport it shows where I was born and where my current residence is which is here in America. This shouldn't matter when coming to Brazil should it? I would be entering the country as an Italian.

Also I am thinking of working in Brazil later this year. Under which nationality should I obtain a working visa, American or Italian. Does it matter??

thank you!

The Brazilian Governament has published new rules for those who apply for permanent investor visa.
The minimum amount required for investment now is R$ 150.000,00 and the RNE (foreigners ID) will be valid not permanently anymore, but for 3 years. By the end of the 3 years, in order to renew the document the foreing investor must proove the creation of new jobs for Brazilian workers. The new rules does not mention how many jobs must be created, so as far it is more than one we suppose it is OK.

The executive secretary of the ministry of Justice, Luiz Paulo Barreto, informed on Tuesday, 11-Nov-2008, that by the end of the year, Brazil should edit an migratory amnesty law which will regularize the 40 thousand illegals who live in the country.

The most recent amnesty was 10 years ago, in 1998. A survey conducted by the Migration and Human Rights Institute, in 1998, identified 40,909 people who sought the federal agencies to legalize their situations.

new zealanders do not require a visa they will be given a stamp at the airport fo 90 days. if you wish to stay longer policia federal require passport and copy of tickets they dont normally request proof of funds. this is a relatively simple process and will give you an additional 90 days. after this 90days you cannot leave and re- enter as there is a limit 180 days per year you can stay. the option here is go and stay in another country for 6 months and then return.

Hello can you tell me i recenty had a problem where I threw a plastic bottle at another person car after they threw one at mines, I got arrested and charged with terroristic acts because of that which is a felony. I am waiting to go to court now, do I need to wait until I go to court to see what the outcome would be first to apply for residency in brazil? And if I am charged with that felony would that destroy my chances of living in brazil?

I am an Engineer but have been in Brazil for well over a year teaching English on a Temporary V Work Visa. I had accepted this as a good way to learn the language and get myself legal here. When I recieved the visa I was told I couldn't work for anybody else unless I left the country and got another company to apply for a new visa. Not quite what I wanted to hear.

I have been doing a bit of research and found out that there is a process called "Mudança de Empregador" which you apply for through the DPF (Federal Police) and is actually approved by the Ministry of Justice.
http://www.mj.gov.br/Estrangeiros/mudan%E7a_de_empregador.htm
This process allows you to change your visa from one company to the next provided the company that initially applied for your visa agrees, and states in writing that they no longer need your services.

However, despite calling the Ministry of Justice (61) 3429 3232 various times and talking to several companies that specialize in getting gringos visas, I can't seem to get coherent information. Everyone seems to contradict each other.

What I have found out though is that the process takes 3-4 months to be approved and you have to stay working at the original company during that time. There is no temporary "Protocolo" to work with. You have to stay put at the old company until the change comes through. I had been offered a job with a big multinational company but they told me if I couldn't start work within 20 days they would find somebody else.

Talking to the Ministério do Trabalho (Ministry of Labour) I had someone tell me once that I could cancel my visa and apply for another one without leaving the country. Sounds dodgy, and expensive. Does anyone know anything about either of these two processes, or has anyone actually done them before?

My 20 days are gone now, so I'm just trying to sort things out for the next job offer.

Any information appreciated.

I would appreciate any information on ups and downs of bringing a motorcycle from the united states. I have done extensive searches and found nothing other than it is very expensive. The prices here in Macae are totally crazy to purchase one locally. $30,000.00 US for a Honda Cbr 600 rr. I will be working a 35 and 35 rotation and not sure if that will make a difference. Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
