Nasty topic. I went for a chech up the other day, knowing quite well that this spot on my chest was not just a freckle. As I sat there loking around at all the other people there I realised, wow this is a Major problem here in Aus. There were people of all ages, One stuck to mind was this old man (70s) with many stitches around hes nose and forhead. I was thinking "this could have been prevented" if found earlier. He had scars on top of srars. Anyway my turn to front the Doc, I show him the spot and before you know it he has the knife out aaahhh ouch, aaahh owwwe. Nine stitches later he said "see you in 10 days to chop the other one out" WHAT MORE!!!! This could have been a lot easier if I went when I had suspicions. I think we are all guilty when it comes to our health, I mean some of us do not take it to seriously.
I have put this link here and hope it may save someone the pain and suffering that I have just experienced.

Sorry to hear you're going through this, Stud
Even after removing if positive, you'll need regular follow-ups.
One of my colleagues had a spot on his forearm, removed, was ok but still keep a close eye because of potentials.
Yes, those sunscreen needs to be reapplied after 2 hrs usually because of sweating and after a swim, too.
Alberta has high UV because of the location.
If you wear a cap make sure it's like those the French Legionaires wore with a protection over the nape. Many farmers in Alberta get skin cancers on the nape.
Take care,Stud...use plenty of sun block |

Yes Penn's sun block helps. My ones are on the chest area, I always have this covered. Must be from much earlier years.

The best still is to swin in a full swimming suite, the one we used in the 30's... of course you have less success than with a speedo or a bikini - but in the long run it may protect you.
You can find the legionnaire kind of cap on the cheap market for a few bucks in France, never came across those elsewhere |

Very likely, Stud, they are from earlier years.
I had one removed from the corner of my eye a few years back in Alberta by a plastic surgeon (they generally do a better job than a dermatologist esp on the face). Used to swim alot throughout my sch years. So have to watch out for them, too. It came back negative, but I was glad to have it out because it was growing and bled at times when I scrubbed my face.
Lately too, more youger pple develope "premature" cataracts due to UV damage. Some shades have those "UV Protected" tags but they are actually just regular shades without that protection They actually caused more damages to the eyes than not wearing because with the darkened area the pupils actually dilate more and allow more harmful UV to enter to cause more demages.
So make sure they are really certified UV Shades.

The French and Irish nuns in my Alma Mater used to wear those full-swim suits
Those legionnaire type of caps are available in Alberta after the Health Dept recommended the farmers to wear them when working in the fields. So even hikers use them nowadays |

The skin cancer clinic will get you to strip off and then go all over you with a looking glass, even under your feet. Dont be embarrassed, and dont leave it.

STUD | Most of the school kids here wear them, very common.
I went for a skin check yesterday, 2nd one ever, and I am clear again Been here since 1986.
I am careful with the sun though, learnt my lesson in Spain when younger
I use the shade a lot, although rarely remember to use sun creams. |
