The prestigious IE Business School in Madrid, Spain, is offering four half-scholarships to qualified women in our Expat Women network, in their upcoming Advanced Management Programs.

The Financial Times ranked the IE Business School as fourth best in the world this year for “Executive Education – Open Programs”, following only behind the Harvard Business School, University of Virginia (Darden) and IMD, Switzerland.

The three (English-speaking) program options where half-scholarship applications are invited from qualified women in our Expat Women network are as follows:

1. Advanced Management Program (AMP)
This program is aimed at high-potential directors in transition towards the top executive level and at entrepreneurs who are currently launching a new project. Work focus should be clearly international.

First In-Class Module: 15 – 22 February 2010
Intersession Online Module: 29 February – 8 May 2010
Second In-Class Module: 17 – 25 May 2010

2. Advanced Management Program Intensive
This program is aimed at managers and entrepreneurs who are preparing themselves to make the transition to general management or broader responsibilities. They would bring to the program over 10 years of experience in management.

In-Class Module: 1 – 23 July 2010

3. Global Senior Management Program
This is a joint program with the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.

The program is aimed at members of the Managing Committee and Administrative Councils, presidents, company owners, managing directors, vice presidents, negotiations directors, country managers and other senior managers, whose responsibilities are strategic affairs within their companies, whose focus is clearly international and who each would bring to the program over 15 years of experience in senior management.

First In-Class Module: 16 – 21 May 2010 (Chicago)
Intersession Online Module: 24 May – 19 June 2010
Second In-Class Module: 20 – 25 June 2010 (Madrid)

Full tuition fees for these programs range from €16,900 – €18,900. So, half-scholarships range in value from €8,450 to €9,450.

This is a fantastic opportunity for professional women in our Expat Women network and we encourage all qualified applicants (expatriate and non-expatriate women) to apply.

The deadline for Expat Women network scholarship applications is: 30 November 2009. All inquiries and applications should be directed please to Yvonne Sanchez (Yvonne.Sanchez@ie.edu), Associate Director of Top Management Programs at IE Business School.

Disclaimer: ExpatWomen is receiving no commissions for either the number of applicants or the number of successful candidates.

Warmly,

Greetings all- I was thrilled to see the announcement that the Kindle is going International. Couple highlights of the upgrade:

1.) AT&T is supporting wireless downloads for the Kindle in 100 new countries.
2.) Lonely Planet guides will now be available for download on the Kindle (not previously available)
3.) The cost for the international edition will be $280, a price cut from $300.
4.) The non-international version dropped to $260 (a $40 price cut from the current price, nearly $100 off from when it was originally released)

I've had my Kindle for 4 months now and it has made my expat life SOOO much easier. There's a review of it on my blog: Inspired Overseas Living. The only negative used to be the problems with it working overseas. Now that the issue is resolved, there really is no excuse for why you shouldn't have one!

Hi everyone, I am a recent college graduate (2007) with a Bachlor of Science degree and I've been working for a multinational corporation out of our US Headquarters for 1.5 years. I am of Chinese descent and perfectly fluent in both English and Mandarin. Recently, I got a job offer from our China office which is located in Plaza 66 on Nanjing Road. (I think that's the downtown area, not sure.) They are offering me a monthly housing allowance of RMB8,000 and a monthly salary of RMB20,000. I am a single guy with no attachments. I am hoping to find a contemporarily furnished apartment in the downtown area that's within walking distance to work. Is RMB8,000/month enough for me to consider different options that match with my preference? Also, I have no problem eating the local food but would want to have the flexibility of going out to clubs/bars, eating at nice restaurants etc from time to time. Is the offered monthly salary adequate enough for me to have that kind of life style in Shanghai? or should I ask for more?

I've never lived or worked in Shanghai, so I don't know much about the living standard there or the pay scale for expats. If anyone is kind enough to help me get a better picture of what I am getting myself into, I'd really appreciate it!!!!
