DAY 1: ARRIVE IN HA NOI
We arrive in Noi Bai Airport and get transferred to the hotel. A welcome dinner awaits featuring Vietnamese specialities.
DAY 2: HA NOI – SA PA
In the early morning we visit this charming capital city. Sites include: Hoan Kiem Lake, Temple of Literature, One Pillar Pagoda, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and the mystic Tran Quoc Pagoda by West Lake. In the afternoon, we visit the Museum of Ethnology then proceed to roam around the 36 streets of the Old Quarter. In the evening we prepare our journey on an overnight train to the beautiful mountainous Sa Pa village.
DAY 3: SA PA
We arrive in Lao Cai train station at 6am and have a Lao Cai specialty breakfast then take a scenic bus ride to Sa Pa. After a specialty lunch in Sa Pa we visit the scenic Ham Rong with its various flowers and mountainous views.
DAY 4: SA PA – HA NOI
In the morning we go to Cat Cat, a minority Hmong village. There, we explore their way of life from their housing, textiles, crafts, and the cultural interaction. Later, we return to Sa Pa for lunch then we have time for walking and shopping in Sa Pa village. In the evening we have a traditional dinner in Lao Cai and then we reach the borders of Vietnam-China for a glimpse of the most populated country. We then prepare for our overnight rail journey back to Ha Noi.
DAY 5: HA NOI – HA LONG BAY
After having a morning breakfast in Ha Noi we continue our journey to the coastal Ha Long Bay. Upon reaching this World Heritage Site we get onboard a boat to visit the extraordinary landscapes of Ha Long Bay with over 3000 small islands and fantastic types of limestone. On one particular island, we stop and visit Thien Cung and Dau Go caves and learn about the legends of these caves. Later, we have a seafood lunch on board and return to Ha Long City for a leisurely afternoon meeting up later for dinner.
DAY 6: HA LONG BAY – HA NOI
After morning breakfast, walking, shopping, and then lunch we head back to Ha Noi. The evening awaits in Ha Noi and we are ready to view the famous Water Puppet show.
DAY 7: HA NOI – PERFUME PAGODA – VAN PHUC SILK VILLAGE
Today, we are ready to visit local destinations around Ha Noi. In the morning we go on a mystic journey to the mountainous Perfume Pagoda. After taking in the breathtaking views of the Pagoda we are off to silk village where we learn about the silk making process in addition to finding some good textile bargains.
DAY 8: HA NOI – HUE
Having completed a well covered exploration of the North, we are ready for Central Vietnam. We take a flight to ancient capital Hue. Arriving in the afternoon, we take time to leisurely browse the streets of Hue until dinner time. After dinner the entertainment begins with a traditional music show on a boat.
DAY 9: HUE CITY
After breakfast we go on an sampan excursion on the Perfume River visiting Thien Mu Pagoda, Minh Mang tomb, Khai Dinh tomb. After we visit the large ancient Imperial Citadel then shopping at Dong Ba Market.
DAY 10: HUE – LANG CO – HOI AN
We leave the cultural centre of Hue and continue our journey to Hoi An while stopping by the coastal town of Lang Co and Da Nang (Cham Art Museum) and passing Marble Mountain. After lunch in Da Nang we are on our way to the tranquil riverside town of Hoi An.
DAY 11: HOI AN
Today we have ample time to visit Hoi An. Sites include: Phuc Kien Pagoda, Hoi An Museum, the Japanese Covered Bridge, Tan Ky old house, Assembly Hall of Cantonese Chinese Congregation, and the shopping at Hoi An market.
DAY 12: HOI AN – DA NANG – HO CHI MINH CITY
Today we complete the central Vietnam exploration and prepare for the exciting south. After lunch in Da Nang we transfer to Da Nang Airport take flight. Arriving in Ho Chi Minh City, we settle into our hotel and roam the streets until dinner time.
DAY 13: HO CHI MINH CITY
Today we visit the bustling and dynamic Ho Chi Minh City (aka Saigon). Sites include: the History Museum, Thien Hau Pagoda, the Chinese community Cho Lon market. We get on board again for a dinner cruise along the Saigon River.
DAY 14: HO CHI MINH – PHAN THIET – MUI NE BEACH
Today we prepare to go to the pristine beaches of Vietnam. Phan Thiet is well-known for its white sand beaches, mountains and forests. Mui Ne is a quieter beach town where we stay and have a nice dinner overlooking a sunset.
DAY 15: MUI NE – HO CHI MINH
After a well rested time in Mui Ne we are ready to get back to the bustling of Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arriving we are free to roam around until dinner time.
DAY 16: HO CHI MINH CITY – CU CHI
75 km northwest of Ho Chi Minh City, is a 215 km tunnel which started in 1930 as a series of underground shelters where revolutionary resistance fighter against the French lived. It is the Cu Chi tunnels where we are off to today. There we will get a more complete history of the fascinating structure.
DAY 17: HO CHI MINH CITY – MY THO – MEKONG DELTA
To understand life in the Mekong Delta one must float down its slow shimmering waterways. We will get this day. In the morning we leave for My Tho town of Tien Giang province (the first province in the Mekong Delta). We visit Dong Tam snake-farm then we get on a boat trip on Mekong River to visit the fruit gardens and peasants’ houses on an islet. Lunch at a typical restaurant of Mekong Delta.
We have a farewell dinner in Ho Chi Minh City with few remaining evening hours to complete the shopping.
DAY 18: DAY DEPARTURE
After 18 days, we have explored from the North, Central and South region of Vietnam and have experienced diversity of each region.
Today it is time to be on the way home with it a lifetime worth of memories.
