I am a Malaysian currently reside in the US and am a US Permanent Resident. I have not gone back to Malaysia for quite sometime, and my Malaysian passport has expired. Do u I need to renew my Malaysian passport if I decided to reside permanently in the US?
Also, as a US Permanent Resident, am I required to have a valid/unexpired Malaysian passport at all time?
Thanks.

Yes, even as a US PR, u will need to keep a valid Msian passport. To renew ur passport, u either do it via Embassies in the US or return home and do it at the Immigration Dept of Msia.

Hi common sense dictates you will always need a passport. Or have you adopted US habits of ignoring the rest of the planet Of course u may have another passport but keep Malaysian one as you will never get back if you give it up
Anyone know what hapopened to the threat to make all Malaysians with PR abroad to choose to Malaysia or their "new" country and give up their Malaysian citizenship? |

eRm...yeah of course you need that!
And you need to come back here to do it personally. Maybe just drop by back here for a week or two to renew it! And enjoy the flight...maybe if it did cross your mind....get some of those US stuff for me...i.e. Harley-Davidson stuffs!
Thanks in advance....*GIGgLeS* |

Don't worry, you won't get into trouble. They will give you a temp. passport with valid duration of two weeks and within that period of time you must apply for a new passport. That's it. Easy as that.
Cheers,

Dont worry, if your Passport has expired, they will still renew it at the embassy in USA.But they may give you only for one or two years and expect you to come back forthe MYKAD etc.
As long as you have your IC and citizen papers(if applicable) and B/c.
But if it has expired for many many years ,they may ask you to go back on emergency one way flight to Malayisa, from whjere you can obtain a new passport.
Man, you indeed like rest of america forget there is another part to this world..
My passport expired in UK for nearly two years, as I live here permenantly too, but they just renewed it for two years, and I am going back sometime this year to get the new mykad and renew the passport.
good Luck |
