You will need to apply for an Approved Permit (AP) from the Ministry of Trade. You will need to prove that you have lived away from Malaysia for a number of year, the vehicle must also have been owned by you for at least 6 months. The Malaysian High Com in Singapore would have to certify all these forms and copies of ownership paper etc. THe AP is only granted to an individual ONCE in their lifetime.

Having secured your AP the vehicle will still be subjected to Malaysian Customs Duty based on the age of the car, and at the price that the CUSTOMS people decide (from their books).

I have had this experience bringing in a european car. Myconclusion is:
Unless your present car is a damn fine car which you wnt to keep until your grandchildrens' years DON'T bother! After the hastles and the price of paying Customs duty (provided you are not doing any kopi O deals) it is much better to buy a car in Malaysia - newer and no headaches.
