Hi,

I've heard that in Abu Dhabi its not allowed to wear shorts in the public. It seems like we can easily offend locals and also the law.

I would appreciate any sharing regarding offending things or habits that a foreign can do without knowing?

Thank you and Happy New Year everyone.

Well I'd find if offensive to see a dirty fat old woman with hairy legs wearing shorts in public.

HT, you are a prime example of the boorish Australian that allows people to stereotype. Did you think your reply was funny? It wasn't. Nor was it helpful to the person who posed a legitimate question.

You can wear shorts here. A man will look like a school boy to most locals. A woman will be stared at mercilessly.

we love sarcasm in the land down under - so, don't be so sensitive - a bit of humor does one good.

888 - It appears to me that you are not in the land 'down under'. Leave your sarcasm at home. HC wasn't being sarcastic. HC was being rude and offensive. You are a woman, are you not 888? Weren't you offended or were you just up chuckin' your last swig of beer? Oh, yes, we Aussies love our sarcasm.

The implication of the comment that 'men will be looked upon as school boys for wearing shorts' was meant to show that men wear long pants. Boys wear shorts. If, however, you want people to know that you are culturally different, wear your shorts, but make sure you wear knee length socks. I believe that is still trendy in certain parts of Australia.
