Expatriate Forums in Abu Dhabi (UAE)

Hey all,

I'm currently considering moving to Abu Dhabi if offered a potential job there. I was hoping that my girlfriend could also move over with me (she is planning on working as well).

Are there issues with us living together since we're not married? Is there paperwork required or anything? Or can we just move over, find a place and live together like we can now?

There are issues, it has to do with the visa requirements and she will only be allowed in for thirty days. So take the plunge!

I have heard of couples doing this but you would have to drive to Oman every few weeks to let her exit and re-enter the country. Just something to think about.

Well....My girlfiend is Canadian as well, the rule is - the less people you tell that you arent married the better. Officially you arent allowed to stay unless you arent married. Thousands do it, just dont rub it to anyones face thats all. As in regards to a visa, she can stay for 30 days, then extend for another 60. New rules have come out in Gulf News last week. UAE is very tolerant just dont take the piss with the law and you can do what you want. You can drink here, buy alchohol in specialised shops - the rule is do not over do it and go drunk on the street snogging your girlfriend and you will be cool. There are alot of Expatriates here - if they can do it, so can you. Dont worry too much, if you need help - contact me I will give you more info. The reason I am confident about what I say is cause I have been through all of it myself when I came from the UK. Regards!

True, but very unlikely...Many people live happily here, and have been for a long time. But yes could happen.

NOT worth the risk. Sooner or later you might get lazy. Or unlucky.
